Over 90% of Irish employees shop online while working

Over 90% of Irish employees shop online while they are at work according to a new survey released today. The survey, carried out by Irish cash back website FatCheese.ie, showed that 92% of people shop online while they are working, which may not please Irish bosses!
The survey, which was carried across FatCheese.ie’s 30,000 Irish members, also showed up some other interesting trends related to Irish people and online shopping. Over 70% of Irish online shoppers are using daily deal sites such as CityDeal and LivingSocial to get themselves bargains, while one in two people are spending more online solely because of these new daily deal sites.
As Ireland struggles to lift itself out of the recession the Irish online shoppers refuse to choose Irish sites over international ones when making a purchase online. 79% of online shoppers consider cost ahead of anything else, with only 21% considering Irish websites first as the source of their purchase.
Over 50% of Irish people spend between 1 and 4 hours online per day with 60% of people spending up to €50 per week making purchases online. The top three products shopped for online are clothes (33%), electrical goods (28%) and books (18%). While the top website amongst Irish online shoppers is Amazon, with eBay in second and ASOS the third most popular shopping site.
FatCheese.ie, which has given over €350,000 cash back to Irish shoppers online, believe that Irish people are getting more internet savvy when it comes to shopping online. Maya Kamourieh, founder of FatCheese.ie said; “The results of the survey shows that people are looking for value for money wherever they can get it. With the rise in the impact of daily deal sites this shows that people have no problem in spending money in a recession if they feel they are getting a real bargain.”
“The results also show that Irish companies must step up to the mark when it comes to selling online. They have to give a similar if not better offering than international websites as there is no loyalty. Customers are going where they get the cheapest prices and Irish sites have an advantage with lower delivery costs so they must compete if they hope to gain Irish shoppers,” Kamourieh said.
